The fleur-de-lis celebrates the story of a band of courageous frontiersmen fighting for independence during the Revolutionary War.
Grateful for the aid sent to them by France, they sought to show their gratitude by naming their settlement Louisville in honor of the reigning French king, Louis the XVI.
In 1780, Thomas Jefferson along with the city founding fathers, adopted the fleur-de-lis as the official symbol of Louisville.
Ornament measures appx. 3" tall and comes gift-boxed with the story of the Fleur-de-Lis.
