Talk about a Louisville original!
The Pendennis Club is steeped in Louisville history. Established in 1881 as a gentleman's club, it has been the birthplace of both the Old Fashioned, possibly the first mixed drink to be called a cocktail, and the unique condiment known as Henry Bain Sauce.
Henry Bain was a legendary head waiter at the club and during his forty-year career there he created his famous sauce for both steaks and wild game animals. The recipe is a closely guarded secret and is still served at the Club for its members and guests but is only now available for the general public.
This, the original Henry Bain sauce, is a unique combination of steak sauce, chutneys, worcestershire and other spices that make a dark, rich, spicy condiment for beef, tenderloin, prime rib or steak. Many people think of Henry Bain sauce as similar to A1, but as good as A1 is, it pales by comparison.
